Always a Family:

On October 9th, 2023, the Niños de Cristo Orphanage witnessed a heartwarming and unforgettable reunion as former children raised in the orphanage returned to celebrate the enduring bonds and meaning of family. The event, hosted by Niños Matter volunteers, was filled with laughter, nostalgia, and a profound sense of belonging as generations of individuals reconnected with one another.
Volunteers worked tirelessly to create a warm and festive atmosphere, serving delicious food and drinks, while party music set the tone for the joyous occasion. As the guests arrived, the orphanage grounds quickly filled with the excited chatter of old friends reuniting and the playful energy of children meeting new friends. Many attendees had since started families of their own, bringing their children to share in the special day and introducing them to the place that had once been their home; reconnecting with others they had grown up with as siblings.
One of the attendees, Zuleika, grew up in the orphanage from the age of seven and brought her husband to the event. Now an adult, she dedicates her life to serving the community that raised her, working full-time to improve the lives and circumstances of the boys and girls there today. Standing among her former housemates, she reflected on how Niños de Cristo had shaped her journey and inspired her to give back.
Mark, a young man who graduated from the orphanage a few years ago, described the children still living there as his “brothers and sisters.” His deep connection to the orphanage remains strong, and he frequently makes an effort to visit, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to the younger generation. For him, the reunion was not just an event—it was a reaffirmation of the lifelong family and home that the orphanage had provided.
For some attendees, this was their first time returning in years, making the reunion an especially emotional experience. Stories of childhood adventures, challenges overcome, and cherished memories were shared with warmth and gratitude. Endless smiles and tears of joy mixed with laughter as guests reminisced about the past while embracing the present. Throughout the celebration, one truth became clear: Niños de Cristo is more than just an orphanage—it is a family. No matter how much time has passed or how life has changed, the bonds formed within its walls remain unbreakable. The reunion served as a powerful reminder that the love and support found at Niños de Cristo Orphanage extend far beyond childhood, lasting a lifetime. No matter where life takes them, those who have called Niños de Cristo home will always be part of something greater—a family that continues to grow, evolve, and support one another through every stage of life.
